Remains of ancient temples, Shivlinga, idols found at Ayodhya temple site

  • Seven pillars of black touchstone, six pillars of red sandstone, a five-foot Shivling and remains of idols of gods and goddess have been recovered from the Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya during the leveling of ground.
  • The recovery of pillars and other items are crucial and attest facts that religious dwellings had once stood there and were demolished by the invaders for the construction of a mosque.
  • The work of levelling the land at Ram janmbhoomi premises had been going on since May 11 after the restrictions on construction activities were lifted.
  • "The work started on May 11, 2020. Since then many objects have been discovered during excavation. It include many objects of archaeological importance like flowers made of stone, Kalash, Aamalak, Dorjamb etc.”

The findings hold significance as the presence of a temple beneath the overground structures was a bone of contention for decades and was later resolved by the Supreme Court of the country.
