Reliance JioMart website goes live across cities

  • Reliance Jio’s e-commerce portal JioMart has finally gone live after months of testing and the company has also started receiving orders from serviceable pin codes.
  • Facebook recently acquired shares in Reliance, making it the biggest minority shareholder in the Indian company.
  • Facebook’s daughter company, WhatsApp also signed a commercial agreement with Reliance Jio over its online venture JioMart.
  • In order to place an order on JioMart, users will first have to save the WhatsApp business number allotted to JioMart which is 88500 08000.
  • On just typing 'Hi', the company will then send a link to the customer's WhatsApp account. This link should be accessed within 30 minutes after which it will expire.
  • Over 3 crores offline retailor with over 20 crore household in India will connect through Reliance Jiomart.
  • JioMart is expected to increase competition for e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon.
  • Especially, it will increase competition to Amazon Prime, that offers express delivery.
  • It may also take on existing grocery delivering platforms such Bigbasket and Grofers.
